What is it about summer that makes us all crave a little more romance in our lives? Is it the heat? The laid-back vibe? The sundresses and drinks on patios? Oh wait, is it the shirtless dudes at the beach? Also, am I the only one currently humming “Summer Lovin’” from Grease right now?
Obviously, I have tons of books I can recommend for all of your summer reading pleasure, but in this post, I wanted to talk about movies. Because, I, for one, am super excited about the return of romance to the big (er, small) screen. Rom coms used to be all the rage. Movies like Notting Hill, The Proposal, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Sweet Home Alabama just to name a few. And then, they all kind of disappeared. Personally, I blame superhero movies (although I can’t hate on them too much because HELLO Thor).
But romance is back, and I couldn’t be happier about it, especially given how many new romcoms and romantic movies are popping up on Netflix. I’m a Netflix-a-holic, mainly because I have a six month old daughter, so getting out to the actual movie theater just isn’t happening these days.
Here are my top picks for what we should all be streaming this summer.
Always Be My Maybe
This is a Netflix original starring Ali Wong and Randall Park, and features a second chance romance. Also, Keanu Reeves. Just in case you were on the fence.
The Last Summer
Starring AJ Kappa and Maia Mitchell, it’s about a group of high school kids during their last summer together before heading off to college.
The Perfect Date
Noah Centineo (who makes me feel like an old dirty lady for perving on him) plays an unpopular high school student (um, ok then) who becomes a “date for hire” to save money for college. Of course, he falls for one of his customers. Natch.
Have you watched any of these? What did you think? What other romantic movies would you recommend?
